Description (EN):

Due to implementation of EU nature conservation and water management policies, Latvia and Lithuania face similar challenges thus it is important to share available experience and expertise, especially in the bordering regions where the mismanagement of resources by one party can influence the other side. The project objective is to strengthen cooperation among Bauska (LV) and Biržai (LT) regions for better nature and water management through integration of environmental issues into planning processes. The project promotes sustainable use and maintenance of nature and water resources as well as balanced economic development in Bauska and Biržai regions by developing a number of case/feasibility studies: management plan for nature park “Bauska”, establishment of demonstration sites for nature conservation with installation of the nature trails and demonstration sites for clean up of river banks to increase fish population, reconstruction of lock-gate in Ceraukste Parish, restoration of lake Širvėna habitats in Biržai Municipality as well as promotion of participation of local society.
