Overall objective the project: To develop joint smart and innovative management system for cross-border environmental protection, monitoring and early risk recognition and prevention from wildfire Specific objective: 1. To cope wildfire disasters by implementing efficient and effective crisis management system. 2.To utilize best practice by implementation of innovative solutions and involvement of citizens, civil society organizations and other stakeholders in local/national problem solving. 3. To prevent harmful consequences of wildfires on environment and human life. 4. To improve multi-level coordination and communication in wildfire suppression 5. To strengthen capacities of territorial firefighting units 6. To achieve better preparedness of available assets and to share facilities on disposal in joint risk management activities. 7. To raise awareness of local communities on importance of responsible behavior towards nature 8. To upgrade local skills in combating extreme wildfires disasters by applying innovative and advanced IC Technologies, models and solutions for early detection, monitoring, targeting and suppression of wildfires and mitigation of their impact in the cross-border area.

Achievements (EN):

Summary of the achieved results: 1. Procurement of ICT equipment - (Information - communication technology) for the firefighters from Struga, Librazhd, the Protection and Rescue Directorate (PRD) - North Macedonia and the National Civil Protection Agency (AKMC) - Albania; 2. Procurement of 4 drones (two for Struga firefighters and two for Librazhd); 3. Installation of sensors and cameras for early detection of fires in the border area of Mount Jablanica North Macedonia and Albania in the 4 designated points (two in North Macedonia and two in Albania); 4. Established a developed integrated system with complete equipment for early warning of forest fires in the firefighting units in Struga and Librazhd, as well as provided equipment for establishing a monitoring connection in PRD and AKMC; 5. Designed and created website https://cbcforestshield.eu of the project, publication on the social platform facebook, boards, folders, banners; 6. Promotion of the project through the creation of 2 promo videos (up to 1:54 seconds) to raise public awareness among citizens in the border area and in general in the country to reduce the risks of forest fires and environmental protection; 7. Renovation of the command rooms in the facilities of the fire fighting units in the municipality of Struga, the municipality of Librazhd and the Directorate for Protection and Rescue:- Reconstruction of the Command Center in SSO - Skopje.- Reconstruction of the entire second floor of the fire department in Librazhd-Albania- Reconstruction and installation of a heating and cooling system in the Struga fire department 8. Held workshops for exchange of experiences- Forest fire training – Struga (1 day)- Operation of the Wild Fire Management System (WFMS) – Struga (2 days)- Community-Based Fire Management System/Prevention and Protection/Civil Organizations (CSOs) Librazhd (1 day)

Expected Results (EN):

Summary of the expected results: Impact: Establish effective cross-border cooperation between co-applicants for monitoring and early detection of risk and prevention of forest fires, through joint training and installation of joint smart and innovative systems. 1. Developed and implemented integrated wildfire management strategy covering all phases of wildfire; 2. Wildfire incidents are early detected and prevented by timely alerting all stakeholders in the firefighting management system; 3. Improved firefighters’ operation in the field; 4. Enhanced interoperable and secure incident-management, decision-making and communication, coordination and command systems; 5. Developed capacities for readiness of response units for local, national, cross-border, regional, international assistance; 6. Provided harmonized training and standard operating procedures for first responders to improve interoperability; 7. Mobilized and engaged preparedness of the local communities; 8. Developed and implemented innovative solutions for management of protected areas aimed to increase local and national operational capacity improving prevention of forest fires. Results: Establishment of a Joint Fire Risk Management Headquarters, specialized preliminary training (a total of 10 trainings for firefighting units, volunteers, local organizations and the business community) and advanced technology will provide benefits in several respects: enhanced technology, timely response to forest fires regardless of weather conditions and fire damage will be limited.
