Description
Description (EN): The project will be addressed under the priority Adaptation to climate change and environmental protection and will contribute its outputs to the specific objective Adaptation to climate change. The overall objective of the project will be to assess the nature of soil organic matter and the influence of environmental factors in different ecosystems on the processes of DOC and DON transformation between particulate matter and soil solution in relation to biogeochemical cycles of nutrients and risk elements in the Czech-Bavarian border region in the context of ongoing global climate change with the aim of increasing soil carbon storage. The project will be implemented in three activities. In the first activity, experimental plots will be established and then the actual research data will be collected. The first activity will be followed by a pilot study to verify the results obtained in the first activity in agricultural practice in the programme area. The third activity will focus on a comprehensive evaluation of the collected data, presentation of the results and recommendations for practice. As a result, new methodological approaches will be proposed and put into practice, with a focus on maintaining or increasing soil fertility. Other outputs will be: a monograph, a final conference and a leaflet. The target group will be land owners, tenants, agricultural companies, etc. farming on agricultural land in the Czech-Bavarian border area.

Read more Actual Achievements (EN): During the initial monitoring period of the project (16.8.2023-31.10.2024), joint consultations with the project partners, as well as associated partners and other entities (Straubing Technology and Research Centre, Deggendorf Water Authority, etc.) were conducted to discuss the project's objectives.Collaborative research areas were established at both partners (VÚRV /CZ/ and LFU /DE/).State-of-the-art research equipment was procured for the project. A series of tests were conducted on precipitation, leachate, soil, and other related samples. Negotiations were initiated with relevant landowners and tenants within the designated area to establish a pilot study. The launch of the CZ-BY Interreg transboundary project (project no. BYCZ01-145) was formally announced during the international conference on soil in Liptovský Ján (Slovakia).
During the second monitoring period of the project (1 November 2024–31 July 2025), further joint consultations were held with the project partner and associated partners, including the Straubing Technology and Research Centre and the Deggendorf Water Management Authority. Measuring equipment (lysimeters and weather stations) was installed at the research sites and laboratory equipment (a TOC analyser) was put into operation. Precipitation and seepage water samples were collected using lysimeters and analysed in the laboratory. Soil samples were collected in the area of interest for the pilot study. An article was published in an international peer-reviewed journal.
During the third monitoring period of the project (1 August 2025 – 30 April 2026), further joint consultations took place with the project partner (e.g., meetings, preparation of publications, and the delivery and collection of LFU samples). A new laboratory (the TOC laboratory) was completed and put into operation. Precipitation and seepage water samples were collected using lysimeters. Additionally, TOC measurements were performed on the water samples using an analyser. These analyses covered various samples (open-area precipitation, under-canopy precipitation, and samples from the LFU partner) and measured parameters such as DOC, TN, pH, and nutrients. Soil samples were also collected and analyzed in the laboratory for the Pernolec and Křimice pilot studies. All obtained data were stored in a database, and work began on producing the final project outputs (verified technology, methodology, monographs, etc.).
