Investments, deliverables, policy contributions

(bullets are inserted automatically and may be incorrectly placed)

Deliverables:

  • Innovation in BSS’s ForestRadar product.
  • Innovation in Deskis’s ForestMan product.

Contribution to wider strategies and policies:

  • EUStrategyBalticSeaRegion Contribution to the EUSBSR policy area: Innovation. The new service will help forest owners with new innovative ways of managing their forests with AI-based software.
  • Other Estonian Forestry Strategy 2021-2030 (MAK2030) states that measures has to be developed to stop the decrease in the number of natural person forest owners and the area of forest land owned by them. The new service makes proffesional forest management practices available also for small forest owners (incl. natural persons) with easy-to-use user interface and automated forest management recommendations.
  • Other Estonian Forestry Strategy 2021-2030 (MAK2030) states that forest owners must be supported and motivated in order to improve the species composition of forests with silvicultural techniques and ensure greater productivity, quality and good health of forests in order to create more sustainable and healthy stands against the effects of climate change. The new service will support and motivate forest owners when providing them automated management recommendations that are easy-to-use, in accordance with national forest growth models, use newest technologies and best practices.
  • Other Estonian Forestry Strategy 2021-2030 (MAK2030) states that the area of maintenance felling must increase. The new service involves detecting need for cleaning and precommercial thinning of economic forests. This directly helps to improve this objective by helping forest owners to detect young forests that need maintenance.
  • Other Estonian Environmental Strategy until 2030 sets a goal for development of forestry information and monitoring systems to enable knowledge-based decision-making. The new service will provide remote sensing and machine learning based forest monitoring and make easy-to-use and easy-to-understand knowledge-based forest work planning service available for all forest owners (incl natural persons).
  • EUStrategyBalticSeaRegion Forest thinning remote sensing services in Latvia contribute to the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region by promoting environmental sustainability, climate change mitigation, sustainable forest management, cross-border collaboration, economic development, ecosystem services, water quality improvement, and informed policy-making. By harnessing the power of remote sensing technology, Latvia can enhance the resilience and vitality of its forests while contributing to broader regional sustainability objectives in the Baltic Sea Region.
