The FORESTCARBOVISION project addresses pressing environmental challenges in the NPA region by developing and implementing sustainable forest carbon farming technologies.By integrating advanced forest carbon farming technologies, the project aims to improve forest carbon capture and biodiversity conservation in 4 participating countries. The project will produce innovative carbon assessment tools, a replicability framework for best practices, and pilot projects demonstrating scalable solutions. Key beneficiaries include forest owners, environmental agencies, and policymakers. A transnational approach is essential to leverage diverse expertise, enabling the adaptation of solutions to different ecosystems. The originality of the project lies in its participatory approach, co-designing practical tools and methods with stakeholders from public institutions, research organizations, NGOs, and private sector partners, ensuring wide-scale implementation and impact across the region.

Expected Achievements (EN):

WP1 will establish five operational Living Labs across four NPA countries (Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Ireland), applying Living Lab methods as the core mechanism for co-designing and co-creating solutions for climate change adaptation, biodiversity enhancement, and forest carbon accounting. The Living Labs will bring together best practices and transdisciplinary expertise from across the Quadruple Helix of societal actors to develop a "Forest Carbon Farming Toolkit" that is replicable and adaptable to diverse local contexts. WP1 will include an initial scoping phase to assess regional capacities and challenges, followed by co-creation activities to produce innovative solutions. The objective is to decrease the error of forest carbon assessment to 0.1% and ensure replicability, with local stakeholders involved in policy development and capacity building. These activities will support the transition to sustainable, climate-resilient forestry practices across the NPA region. WP2 will establish and operationalize five demonstration sites across four NPA countries (Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Ireland) to showcase innovative approaches for enhancing climate resilience, improving forest carbon accounting, and promoting nature restoration. These demonstration sites will apply the "Forest Carbon Farming Toolkit" developed in WP1 and aim to reduce forest carbon monitoring errors by 0.1%. The objective is to validate the toolkit's effectiveness in diverse environmental contexts and ensure its scalability across the NPA region. Additionally, WP2 will engage local stakeholders and policymakers through field demonstrations, ensuring that at least three nature restoration and carbon farming practices are adopted locally by the end of the project. The measurable outcome will be a significant improvement in local climate adaptation strategies and forest management practices. WP3 will enhance the capacity of at least 100 local forestry professionals, community members, and policymakers across Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Ireland to adopt climate-resilient forestry and forest carbon farming practices. Through a series of tailored training sessions, workshops, and hands-on demonstrations, the project will equip participants with the skills and knowledge to apply the "Forest Carbon Farming Toolkit" and integrate it into regional forestry management. The objective is to ensure that at least 70% of participants implement climate-adaptive practices within their local contexts, contributing to sustainable climate-smart forestry management and carbon sequestration. The measurable outcome will be an increase in the adoption of climate-resilient methods across the region, ensuring long-term environmental and economic sustainability.
