De vraag naar koeling in gebouwen groeit wereldwijd snel, met airconditioningssystemen die al 10% van het mondiale elektriciteitsverbruik en 7% van de broeikasgasuitstoot vertegenwoordigen. Hittegolven, maar ook goed geïsoleerde gebouwen, dragen bij aan deze trend, ook in de grensregio. Innovatieve technieken zoals bodemenergie, aquathermie, klimaatsturing en intensieve ventilatie bieden duurzame koeloplossingen, maar worden nog niet breed toegepast door gebrek aan kennis. Duurzaam Zomercomfort streeft ernaar deze technieken te demonstreren en de bekendheid ervan te vergroten zodat een verschuiving naar energie-efficiënte koelsystemen mogelijk wordt. Deze aanpak moet niet alleen zorgen voor minder energieverbruik, maar het moet ook economisch haalbaar zijn en een comfortabele omgeving creëren. Dankzij verschillende demonstraties in nieuwbouw, renovatieprojecten en bestaande gebouwen wil het project gebouweigenaren, beleidsmakers en de bouwsector informeren en inspireren om voor een duurzame aanpak te kiezen. Zo zal Duurzaam Zomercomfort richtlijnen, voorbeelden en inzicht in comfortniveaus en energieverbruik per systeem bundelen in educatief materiaal voor kennisverspreiding. Een greep uit de geplande realisaties: In Geel (BE) wordt het een schoolgebouw van de Thomas More hogeschool gerenoveerd. De renovatie bekijkt het potentieel van duurzame koeling bij renovatiewerken van gebouwen waarbij er beperkingen zijn op gebied van technische (constructie) en financiële mogelijkheden. Er zal een koppeling gebeuren op een bestaand BEO veld van een naburig gebouw voor de luchtkoeling en vloerverwarming.Bij het woonzorgcentrum Hoogstraete Zuyderland (Sittard, NL) zal er een WKO - warmte-koude opslag en vloerverwarming worden toegepast bij de renovatie.Monitoring van heel wat bestaande gebouwen die onlangs energie-efficiënte ingrepen realiseerden, zoals het Atlas onderwijsgebouw Eindhoven (NL), Woonzorgcentrum Veenhagen Nootdorp (BL), Nike Trainingscenter in Laakdal (BE), Provinciehuis provincie Antwerpen (BE), Kantoor Ecoheating Melle (BE).

The demand for cooling in buildings is growing rapidly worldwide, with air conditioning systems already accounting for 10% of global electricity consumption and 7% of greenhouse gas emissions. Heat waves, but also well-insulated buildings, contribute to this trend, also in the border region. Innovative techniques such as geothermal energy, aquathermy, climate control and intensive ventilation offer sustainable cooling solutions, but are not yet widely used due to a lack of knowledge. Duurzaam Zomercomfort aims to demonstrate these techniques and increase their awareness so that a shift to energy-efficient cooling systems becomes possible. This approach should not only ensure lower energy consumption, but it should also be economically feasible and create a comfortable environment. Thanks to various demonstrations in new construction, renovation projects and existing buildings, the project aims to inform and inspire building owners, policy makers and the construction sector to opt for a sustainable approach. For example, Duurzaam Zomercomfort will bundle guidelines, examples and insight into comfort levels and energy consumption per system in educational material for knowledge dissemination. A selection of the planned realisations: In Geel (BE), a school building of the Thomas More University College is being renovated. The renovation examines the potential of sustainable cooling in renovation works of buildings where there are limitations in terms of technical (construction) and financial possibilities. A connection will be made to an existing BEO field of a neighboring building for air cooling and floor heating.At the residential care center Hoogstraete Zuyderland (Sittard, NL) a heat-cold storage and floor heating will be used in the renovation.Monitoring of many existing buildings that recently realized energy-efficient interventions, such as the Atlas education building Eindhoven (NL), Residential care center Veenhagen Nootdorp (BL), Nike Trainingscenter in Laakdal (BE), Provincial House of the province of Antwerp (BE), Office Ecoheating Melle (BE).
