The SHIELD Project transforms healthcare management through an integrated approach combining traditional practices with innovative digital solutions such as the SHIELD Platform and educational games. Tailored to individual needs, the project promotes healthy living, personal empowerment, economic innovation, and strict data privacy. It addresses major public health challenges like obesity and diabetes—conditions linked to cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and chronic disabilities—by engaging a wide network of stakeholders including hospitals, clinics, social workers, psychologists, and entrepreneurs. Starting from healthcare institutions, SHIELD enables professionals to collaborate within a cross-border network and direct individuals toward comprehensive, multidisciplinary care. The project adopts a One Health perspective, connecting personal well-being with broader environmental and social determinants. It also fosters the development of startups, public-private partnerships, and new business models to ensure long-term sustainability. Operating in regions facing shared challenges due to similar dietary habits—such as Puglia, Basilicata, and parts of Greece—SHIELD promotes a shift toward healthier lifestyles by combining digital tools, community-based support, and education. Its innovative dimension lies in its holistic, cross-sectoral strategy; the use of ICT for healthcare education and management; and the mobilization of stakeholders through a Triple Helix model. Ultimately, SHIELD aims to strengthen healthcare resilience, increase awareness, reduce disease incidence, and ensure equitable access to care, while laying the foundation for scalable solutions aligned with EU objectives for integrated community care and health system sustainability.
