- FUND: 560.552.090 HUF (EN) | Touristical utilization of the Nagyerdei Watertower
- The University of Debrecen recognized the potential for tourism in the area of Nagyerdő in Debrecen and undertook a significant cultural development project by restoring and repurposing the former Water Tower Building. This project aims to create a unique tourist attraction in the region with a national scope. Nagyerdő, a well-known destination in the country, is primarily used for recreational and cultural purposes. The addition of attractive, regionally innovative, and professionally founded developments will expand its tourist offerings. The Nagyerdő Water Tower, which celebrated its 100th birthday in 2013, is a locally protected industrial (cultural) heritage site managed by the University of Debrecen. The tower is planned to be preserved and utilized for tourism purposes. The target groups for this project include school groups, families, retirees, cycling enthusiasts, city visitors, extreme sports enthusiasts, and culture enthusiasts. As part of the project, the heritage value of the water tower will be renewed, and it will be opened to visitors, expanded with experience elements and tourist functions. There will be 13 attraction elements corresponding to the target groups, or services, and seven types of program packages that will contribute to increasing tourists' length of stay. The project is expected to attract 78,000 visitors in the years following its introduction. The creation of 3.5 jobs will lay the foundation for long-term profitable operation. The project is sustainable, taking economic and social aspects into account, and its social benefits are significant. There was little impact on the environment. (EN), 2023 European Capital of Culture - Bright Cityscapes multidisciplinary program in collaboration with Politehnica University in Timisoara
- Program: European Capital of Culture
- Fund: 400.000 euro
- Duration: dec 2022 – dec 2023
- (EN) | In 2023, Timisoara has been a European Capital of Culture. The effervescent cultural activities that filled the city demonstrated culture’s capacity to unite people from diverse social conditions, to boost the economy and tourist interest in a city situated at Europe’s periphery. FABER was one of the main actors within the official program and has already experienced excellent results from tackling local challenges and opportunities through innovative, contextually grounded cultural approaches. In this project, this previous experience will be brought to new levels through the collaboration with MODEM and the expansion of previously tested methods to the field of art and the surrounding region with an international focus.
- The objective of the Bright Cityscapes project, which FABER developed with Politehnica University, was to establish a design laboratory for the city that would observe, respond, and act on contemporary urgencies within both Timisoara and the disciplines of design, architecture, and digital culture. The program began with research on Timisoara’s productive and academic ecosystem and brought together international thinkers, designers, sociologists, creative networks, academia, institutions, and companies in a series of exhibitions, conferences, workshops, and other events. It also served as a platform for knowledge exchange, inviting the citizens and stakeholders of Timisoara to perceive design as a change-making cultural filed. (EN)
