A fundamental problem and weakness of the tourism of the ROHU border area is the lack of knowledge about the tourist attractions of this area within the region and on an international level, a direct consequence of which is the low number of visitors, the short time spent here and the unfavourable trend of incomes. The evident deficit of cycling infrastructure is only a part of the challenges. Many other European bicycle routes where the trail goes by neighboring area are already well-developed competitor areas. Therefore the ROHU border area is lagging behind in attracting cycling tourists which is quite a popular form of tourism nowdays. The great possibilities in the cycling facilities of the CB region are yet to be utilized. The CB regional subject to the project has a vast number of cultural and natural treasures, which would benefit from the socio-economical advantages of healthy and sustainable tourism. Furthermore, as in many other nations, cycling tourism already makes a sizable economic contribution to the nation with advantages for small businesses in rural areas. The goal of the GOSLING project is to raise the number of cross-border cycling tourists in the Romanian-Hungarian border region to a level similar to that of other Western European border regions, for which various infrastructural investments and the creation of cross-border cycling packages will be implemented. In order to popularize cross-border cycling thematic routes among tourists, the project partnership deploys innovative communication and promotion tools. The isolation of the Hungarian-Romanian border region will decrease as a result of the defined CB cycling trails. For tourists outside the region, the ROHU border area will be presented as a single destination, and it will also be displayed as a single destination in the framework of the marketing activites and on the promotional tour organized with stars and children for journalists. The main outputs of the project: -creation of a database that will include: safe routes for cycling in the border region, recommendation for resting places, list of cycle tourism related service providers that are willing to collaborate in the project, as well as a list of tourist attractions along the route etc. - Fully equipped bike rental center - Euroregional training centre and camp for MTB cyclists - Bicycle riding guide for children - 3 sessions of training for service providers - 5-day bicycle riding camp for children with disabilities - 22 mountain bikes - 5 case studies from European CB regions where CB thematic bicyle routes can be found - creation of 5 thematic CB cycling tourist routes - ROHU CB board game about the highlights of the CB region and cycling - ROHU CB escape room - CB promotional activity with famous star(s), children and mass media - information boards and wayfinding panels - promotion materials (prints, web content, short video etc.) The partnership will jointly work on the promotion of CB cycling routes and sharing each other's experiences which would serve the communities in the CB region to expand to aim not only at domestic tourism but international tourism also. This would significantly help the competitive ability of the region. Furthermore, drawing in the general public is a key challenge, which is common in the region. There are several novelties in the project: - there are no CB cycling thematic routes in the ROHU border area, these 5 will be the first ones - one of the basis of the route will be the collected best practices from other European CB cycling routes - the project will use numerous innovative communication and marketing tools in order to popularize the 5 cross-border thematic cycling routes, the sights of the Hungarian-Romanian border region, and knowledge about cycling.

Expected Achievements (EN):

The project aims to expand the local tourism offer by developing and promoting themed tourism packages for cyclists, which will contribute to the sustainable and environmentally friendly development of the border area. The packages will contain cross-border cycling routes with a wider outlook, in order to keep tourists in the region for several days and also attract tourists from other parts of Europe, which will bring increased benefits to the towns and villages along the routes, given the economic advantages of cycling tourism. Activities related to capacity building, education and awareness raising will enhance the conditions for a successful outcome.

ROHU452 JEDI (EN) | In the framework of ROHU 452 flagship project which was implemented in the framework of 2014-2020 programming period two partners of the current partnership (LP1 and PP2) has already been project partners. They had created reliable communication channels between them and has already implemented similar activities on the field of CB empleyment and vocational training like in GOSLING project. The above mentioned partners had also made case studies, common events, etc in JEDI project. The method and the consequences of the case studies in the field of CB empleyment from European border regions will be able to make a synergy with the European CB case studies of GOSLING project as tourism also a sector which employs large number of employees. (EN), HUSRB/1601/31/0005 Colourcoop (EN) | The objective of the project was to develop a comprehensive cultural touristical strategy for the entire Hungarian-Serbian border region, to launch an online, information and news centre in Hungarian and Serbian, to set up Serbian and Hungarian cultural centres in Hungary and in Serbia, and to integrate Novi Sad, a future European Capital of Culture and its surrounding region into the cultural and touristic life of the Hungarian-Serbian border region. The newly developed CB bicycle thematic routes can be attached to the touristical highlights of the HU-SRB border area as they are neighbouring one and also can be promoted via the communication channels which were built within the ColourCoop project. (EN), HUSRB/0901/212/148 Tasty DKMT (EN) | In the project called Tasty DKMT, the DKMT created a three thematic gastronomical tourist route crossing the borders, which was a great success. As part of the promotion of the thematic trips, DKMT also organized a study tour for European journalists. The thematic bicycle routes created within the framework of the current GOSLING project match the already existing thematic tourist routes affecting the territory of the DKMT Euroregion, so together with them they further enrich the cross-border tourist offer of the Euroregion.
