Description (EN):

The WeVaRe project attempts a systemic approach to studying wetland degradation phenomena of international importance, from protected areas in the transboundary area of Ukraine, Romania and Slovakia, and WeVaRe will explicitly encourage interaction and knowledge exchange between different scientific disciplines. Development of an integrated degradation monitoring and risk assessment system, for the areas analyzed in the project, built as a unique database referenced on the WeVaRe platform, represents a new model for wetlands of international importance in Ukraine, Romania and Slovakia. The WeVaRe project will integrate advanced monitoring and analysis techniques in new, coordinated and innovative ways to improve our understanding of the analyzed issue in the HU-SK-RO-UA cross-border area and its effect on the environment. The project will also reflect the interaction of scientists and stakeholders, as authorities and responsible units in the field will be informed of the project's results. Development of an integrated land degradation monitoring and risk assessment system, built as a unique database referenced on the WeVaRe platform, represents a new model for wetlands of international transboundary importance. The advantage is that the model can be replicated in other similar areas of the world and is a useful, fast, homogeneous and cost-saving tool for a large category of end users. ORIGINAL AND INNOVATIVE CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE PROJECT - Increased European technical know-how for environmental monitoring; Development of new scientific communication procedures and workflows that break down barriers between different scientific disciplines to ensure timely evaluation and analysis of data. - Use of the latest tools of industry monitoring and geochemical analysis of the functioning of wetlands for the purpose of their preservation and restoration. - Development of best practices in communication procedures with end users and stakeholders across Europe.

Expected Achievements (EN):

This objective is associated with the programme-specific objective Priority 1: A resilient and green border region, Objective 1.2: Biodiversity and reduced pollution (OS 2.7). The main objective of the project will be in particular the assessment of the current state of the natural environment and the biodiversity of wetlands and their surroundings and, based on the information obtained, the development of a wetland monitoring system based on technologies and modern practices.
