Contribution to wider strategies and policies:

    • Other The Interreg Program is a crucial EU instrument promoting regional cooperation, cohesion, and development. GREENMEDPORTs aligns with Interreg objectives by establishing a trans-Mediterranean platform to monitor carbon footprints from ports and logistics, and by creating a European data repository for emissions (WP4). The project fosters cooperation and cohesion among EU regions (Italy, Malta) and non-EU countries (Egypt, Malta, Tunisia, Algeria) through peer-to-peer exchanges and synergies (WP3). This collaboration aims to enhance prosperity and regional collaboration, aligning with initiatives like EUROMED and Interreg programs.
    • GREENMEDPORTs supports high-level strategies:
    • - EU Green Deal: By mapping carbon emissions from ports and logistics (WP4) and creating transnational strategies and regional Action Plans (WP5) for sustainable transport, the project contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
    • - UN Sustainable Development Goals (Agenda 2030) & Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development: The project fosters green innovations in five port areas (Goal 9) and reduces emissions in port functional areas (Goal 11), promoting cleaner air in urban regions.
    • - New European Agenda for the Mediterranean: Establishing a Multistakeholder Forum (WP3), the project facilitates the sharing of challenges and opportunities in a collaborative environment.
    • - 2030 GreenerMed Agenda: By co-creating a transnational strategy (WP5), GREENMEDPORTs aims to transition maritime transport from fossil-based to carbon-neutral, prioritizing future green investments and decarbonization efforts.
    • Additionally, GREENMEDPORTs aligns with national decarbonization policies and initiatives in participating countries, such as Italy’s Recovery and Resilience Plan, Malta’s National Transport Strategy 2050, Tunisia’s National Low-Carbon Strategy, Egypt’s National Climate Change Strategy, Jordan’s National Climate Change Policy, and Algeria’s National Climate Plan.
