- AI-mediated Interactive Health Messaging for Community Health Promotion in Low-Middle Income Countries - Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (AUB) (EN) | In this project, researchers used GPT-4 to develop an AI-enhanced WhatsApp-based health information chatbot that interactively disseminates real-time reliable and accurate responses to the community health concerns in 28 different languages. This chatbot makes verified public health information accessible to all citizens via their phones, specifically benefiting refugees and other vulnerable populations in Lebanon and Jordan with limited access to accurate, updated health information.

- “Ma3an" is a tool to help the contact tracing efforts that the Ministry is regularly carrying out and it is a way to keep communities safer. It uses Bluetooth technology to detect nearby devices that also have the app, and accordingly, provide the ability to notify at-risk contacts of Covid-19 cases to proceed for testing without disclosing identities. The app does not track geolocation or positioning information and does not collect personal identifiers. The application was designed and developed according to WHO guidelines.

Specifically, the aim of the URBREATH project is to implement hybrid/Natural Base Solutions putting at the heart of the decision-making process the communities within a city. Advanced techniques, particularly Local Digital Twins and AI, and social innovation will facilitate the achievement of its vision.

TEMA will focus on real-time semantic extraction from multiple heterogeneous data modalities and sources and construct a semantically annotated 3D disaster area map, which will be constantly updated, allowing the personnel to visualize and evaluate different response strategies through simulation. The solution will also enable transferability to tackle different disaster types in various geographic regions, thus providing the relevant information that can help make the best possible operative decisions.

(EN), Sabaya Health - IDRC Canada (BZU) (EN) | The Institute of Community and Public Health (ICPH) at Birzeit University has recently launched an interactive online platform that seeks to improve the health and healthcare access of adolescent girls in Palestinian refugee camps in the West Bank and Jordan. The platform is one of the first Arabic-language virtual programs specifically designed to meet the needs of adolescent girls based on their own experiences and testimonies.

- - An in-depth needs assessment through a qualitative study consisting of 39 in-depth interviews and 24 focus group discussions with over 200 adolescent girls living in Palestinian refugee camps in the West Bank and Jordan

(EN), TeamAware: Team Awareness Enhanced with Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality - Horizon 2020 (EN) | First responders are the first to arrive and provide assistance at the scene of an emergency that requires rescue operations and crisis management. However, despite their heroic services, first responders often struggle with inefficient and old technologies. Advanced technology like smart sensor systems, wearables, data processing, data fusion, data analytics, communication infrastructure and AI can dramatically improve performance.
- The project’s main outputs are:
- - Integrated and cost-efficient situational awareness system with heterogeneous and interoperable sensor units
- - Drone-mounted, wearable and external sensor systems
- - Highly standardized augmented reality and mobile human–machine interfaces which increase the flexibility and reaction ability of first responders

(EN), CounteR: Privacy-First Situational Awareness Platform for Violent Terrorism and Crime Prediction, Counter Radicalization and Citizen Protection - Horizon 2020 (Eticas) (EN) | Through this project, an integrated situational awareness system was developed and deployed that will identify radical content online including informal groupings of radicalizers and vulnerable individuals with potential to be radicalized.
- Under this project, an open platform for analysis and early alert – the CounteR solution – was launched, collecting and analyzing data from dispersed sources in order to predict critical communities at risk of radicalization and violent extremism and aid law enforcement to detect radicalization processes more easily. The CounteR solution’s ultimate goal was to provide law enforcement agencies (LEAs), Internet providers, and social media platforms with an early-warning tool to be used in the detection of radical content online for preventing the spread of radicalization and, ultimately, life-threatening terrorist attacks. At the same time, CounteR will preserve the content’s privacy protection and data anonymization. The system aims at supporting the fight against organized crime and terrorism threats and at fostering information-sharing and collaboration between diverse European agencies in charge of countering radical propaganda, fundraising, recruitment, and planning of terrorist acts.

SINFONIA is an integrated model of connected care that places citizens and operators as the center of the healthcare system.

(EN), DIDYMOS-XR: DIgital DYnaMic and respOnsible twinS for XR - Horizon Europe (AUB) (EN) | The EU-funded DIDYMOS-XR project implements technology to create improved large-scale digital twins, synchronized with the real world. The DIDYMOS-XR consortium is investigating and developing methods for data reconstruction and mapping from heterogeneous inputs, including static and mobile sensors, AI-based data fusion, scene understanding and rendering.

(EN), MEDGAIMS: GAmifIcation for Memorable tourist experienceS – ENI Cross-Border Mediterranean programme (AUB) (EN) | The MED GAIMS project developed games in physical and virtual format to create experiences for tourists, giving a necessary competitive edge to the attractiveness of less-known sites. The project sought to increase tourism flows, covering all niches and segments like off-season travelers, creating job opportunities and start-ups for game entrepreneurs.

ETICAS’s role includes leading the ethics WP, conducting an acceptability assessment for the PROACTIVE toolkit, providing a Manual for the system and helping consortium with ethics requirements when organizing the 3 field exercises in Rieti (Italy), Dortmund (Germany) and Antwerp (Belgium). Eticas also coordinates the Ethics and Security boards. One of the project's key tasks is the development of technology tools to improve the interaction between members of the public and practitioners.

The technology developed for this project will help ensure that patients receive the appropriate treatment planning and that healthcare resources are used effectively.

Subsequently, in case of a needed medical intervention, the necessary notifications will be automatically created and sent to the physician or caregiver by the system. Thus, healthcare personnel will be informed in case of any abnormality and patient follow-up will be carried out. The system design would include (1) analysis of patient medical history data, (2) implementation of artificial learning and trend analysis methodologies. The end result of this project will reveal how clinical decision support systems can be implemented through artificial learning with a prior prediction of potential complications that may occur in the future.
