Contribution to wider strategies and policies:

    • Other A Renovation Wave for Europe: STORM is in synergy with the third focus area (decarbonation of heating and cooling) of this initiative. By demonstrating thermal energy storage technology and revealing its efficacy in decentralized applications in buildings, STORM complements the Renovation Wave's objectives and supports its achievement.
    • UN SDG 7 – Decentralized thermal energy storage is a fundamental requirement to achieve affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy. This is in synergy with the SDG 7’s goal to increase investments in renewable energy sources. Innovation in energy storage technologies is key to achieve SDG 7 and accelerate the energy transition globally. STORM will increase the share of modern renewable heat, which is currently at 10.4% only as indicated by UN statistical reports.
    • LIFE Clean Energy Transition sub-programme – STORM is in synergy with this programme which aims at facilitating transition towards an energy-efficient, renewable energy-based, climate-neutral and resilient economy across Europe. By tailoring seasonal thermal storage solutions to the Mediterranean setting to increase efficiency and reduce greenhouse gases in the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors, STORM complements this programme by extending its reach and achieving its goals in the Mediterranean Region.
    • UfM Declaration on Energy - Declaration on Environment and Climate Action - Strategic Action Plan on Urban development 2040: STORM is in synergy with all of the UfM declarations as it aims to enhance the region’s cooperation on energy through a transnational collaboration that includes 5 Mediterranean countries and utilises R&D and Innovation to promote energy efficiency through solar-based de-centralized solutions. STORM complements the UfM intention to implement ambitious roadmaps and targets for energy efficiency by providing essential data from demonstration pilots to showcase the technology's suitability in the unique Mediterranean conditions.
