Description (EN): The CrossReg-4-Health project responds to the common challenge of the cross-border program area of Slovenia and Austria, such as the insufficient exchange of knowledge and good practices between health professionals in both countries. Currently, health care in these regions is fragmented, leading to unequal treatment of patients and varying quality of health services.
General goal of the project
The overall goal of the project is to improve the quality of treatment and rehabilitation of patients by establishing a sustainable educational platform and network for the cross-border exchange of medical professionals. The project aims to introduce innovative treatment methods and increase the competence of health professionals in both countries. The expected change we want to achieve is the improvement of clinical practices and the standardization of care, which will enable better rehabilitation of patients and reduction of long-term consequences of the disease.

UKC Maribor (leading partner) – responsible for the coordination and development of new clinical guidelines and the development of rehabilitation.
Med Uni Graz – contributes to the development of innovative treatment methods, especially in the field of biomarkers.

Main impact indicators and beneficiaries
The project will generate several key impact indicators that will benefit both healthcare professionals and patients:
Enhancement of competences: At least 500 health workers will improve their knowledge and skills through the educational platform and physical exchanges.
Connection with European policies: European Skills Agenda - The project contributes to the development of the skills of healthcare workers through digital tools and physical exchanges and promotes their continuous education.
Digital platform: A sustainable e-learning platform will be established, which will have at least 500 registered users and will provide access to innovative learning content, protocols and results of pilot projects.
Connection with European policies: Digital Education Action Plan - The project supports the development of digital educational solutions and contributes to the digital training of healthcare professionals.
New clinical protocols: The results of pilot projects, such as haptic rehabilitation, the use of biomarkers for prognosis and pain management protocols, will be incorporated into clinical guidelines, improving patient care in participating hospitals.
Connection with European policies: EU Health Policy - The project contributes to the harmonization of health standards and the improvement of the quality of care, in accordance with the EU health policy.
The planned approach and the need for cross-border cooperation
The project is based on cross-border cooperation, as it brings together experts from various hospitals and research centers in Slovenia and Austria (UKC Maribor, Med Uni Graz, KABEG, AMEU). Cooperation enables the transfer of knowledge and best practices between regions where health systems are different but face similar challenges. The platform will establish a space for permanent exchange of knowledge and experience, which will significantly contribute to improving the quality of care at the cross-border level.
Innovativeness and originality of the project
The CrossReg-4-Health project brings innovation by combining the use of innovative technologies such as haptic rehabilitation in virtual reality with the exchange of healthcare professionals and digital education. The combination of pilot projects based on the latest research and a digital platform provides a sustainable and flexible solution that will enable continuous learning and knowledge sharing even after the project has ended. The platform will allow the results to spread to a wider European area, which is important for improving the quality of health care in the long term. The platform can be easily adapted to other content with the aim of improving the knowledge and quality of patient care in various medical fields.

Read more Expected Achievements (EN): The main objective of this work package is to design and implement an education platform for health workers that facilitates mobility, knowledge sharing and the creation of cross-border partnerships between health institutions in Slovenia and Austria. The platform provides access to the latest educational content and technologies around the treatment of patients and enables structured collaboration between medical staff from both regions.
The platform will be based on Design Thinking, with targeted workshops with healthcare professionals in the first phase. The purpose of the workshops is to identify the main health challenges and to develop concepts for how these challenges can be integrated into the platform. In this way, the platform is adapted to the specific needs of the users.
The specific objective of the pilot projects is to provide original learning content on a digital education platform that feeds into the education and training programmes of health workers in Slovenia and Austria. Based on the results of the pilot projects, we will implement innovative approaches to rehabilitation, prognosis and pain management in patients after a cerebral hemorrhage, which will serve as an example of good practice for expert exchange within the cross-border network. Once all activities have been implemented and impact indicators achieved, the pilot projects will enable the exchange of best practices, knowledge and the development of recommendations, which will improve the quality of healthcare and strengthen cooperation between healthcare institutions.
The specific objective is to disseminate knowledge through an education platform and application to educate and raise public awareness of healthcare. With the help of the developed platform, we will enable health professionals, health policy makers, research institutions and residents of the region and in the wider sense to receive relevant professional and scientific information on health care. With an emphasis on prevention and a healthy lifestyle, the platform offers a variety of content, from basic advice to special modules for different user groups.

Platforma bo zagotavljala dostop do najnovejših izobraževalnih vsebin in tehnologij, povezanih z zdravljenjem bolnikov ter omogočila strukturirano sodelovanje zdravstvenega osebja iz obeh regij.
Platforma bo temeljila na oblikovalskem razmišljanju (design thinking), kjer bodo v prvi fazi izvedene usmerjene delavnice z zdravstvenimi delavci. Namen delavnic bo identificirati ključne zdravstvene izzive ter določiti hipoteze o tem, kako te izzive vključiti v platformo. Na ta način bo platforma prilagojena specifičnim potrebam uporabnikov.
Specifični cilj pilotnih projektov je zagotoviti izvirne učne vsebine na digitalni izobraževalni platformi, ki bodo vključene v programe usposabljanja in stalnega izobraževanja zdravstvenih delavcev v Sloveniji in Avstriji. Na podlagi rezultatov pilotnih projektov bomo implementirali inovativne pristope rehabilitacije, prognoze in obvladovanja bolečin pri bolnikih po možganski krvavitvi, ki bodo služili kot primer dobre prakse za izmenjavo strokovnjakov znotraj čezmejne mreže. Ko bodo izvedene vse dejavnosti in doseženi kazalniki učinka, bodo pilotni projekti omogočili izmenjavo najboljših praks, znanja ter izdelavo priporočil, kar bo izboljšalo kakovost zdravstvene oskrbe in okrepilo sodelovanje med zdravstvenimi ustanovami.

Die Plattform bietet Zugang zu den neuesten Bildungsinhalten und Technologien rund um die Behandlung von Patienten und ermöglicht eine strukturierte Zusammenarbeit von medizinischem Personal aus beiden Regionen.
Die Plattform wird auf Design Thinking basieren, wobei in der ersten Phase gezielte Workshops mit Fachkräften des Gesundheitswesens abgehalten werden. Der Zweck der Workshops besteht darin, die wichtigsten gesundheitlichen Herausforderungen zu identifizieren und Konzepte zu entwickeln, wie diese Herausforderungen in die Plattform integriert werden können. Auf diese Weise wird die Plattform an die spezifischen Bedürfnisse der Nutzer angepasst.
Konkretes Ziel der Pilotprojekte ist die Bereitstellung origineller Lerninhalte auf einer digitalen Bildungsplattform, die in die Aus- und Weiterbildungsprogramme von Gesundheitspersonal in Slowenien und Österreich einfließen. Basierend auf den Ergebnissen der Pilotprojekte werden wir innovative Ansätze zur Rehabilitation, Prognose und Schmerzbehandlung bei Patienten nach einer Hirnblutung umsetzen, die als Beispiel guter Praxis für den Expertenaustausch innerhalb des grenzüberschreitenden Netzwerks dienen. Sobald alle Aktivitäten umgesetzt und Wirkungsindikatoren erreicht sind, ermöglichen die Pilotprojekte den Austausch von Best Practices, Wissen und die Entwicklung von Empfehlungen, was die Qualität der Gesundheitsversorgung verbessern und die Zusammenarbeit zwischen Gesundheitseinrichtungen stärken wird.
Das konkrete Ziel ist die Verbreitung von Wissen durch eine Bildungsplattform und Anwendung zur Aufklärung und öffentlichen Sensibilisierung für das Gesundheitswesen. Mit Hilfe der entwickelten Plattform werden wir es Gesundheitsfachkräften, gesundheitspolitischen Entscheidungsträgern, Forschungseinrichtungen und Bewohnern der Region und im weiteren Sinne ermöglichen, relevante professionelle und wissenschaftliche Informationen zur Gesundheitsversorgung zu erhalten. Mit einem Schwerpunkt auf Prävention und einem gesunden Lebensstil bietet die Plattform eine Vielzahl von Inhalten, von grundlegenden Ratschlägen bis hin zu speziellen Modulen für verschiedene Benutzergruppen.
