Description (EN):

Overall objective is to strenghten the identity, investment possibilities and attraction of the Nenets and Finnish Sami Areas. Knowledge of the indigenous peoples of the North and their traditional culture and livelihood gets better. East-west and west-east gateway Inari - Murmansk - Arcangelsk - Narjan-Mar - Komi area. A long-term objective is to create – in conjunction with the Sámi Education Institute – a development centre specialising in tourism among the indigenous peoples of the north. Specific objective: Training will be provided for entrepreneurs, those who wish to start a business of their own and those already active in the labour market, as well as administrative authorities and actors and training consultants engaged in the tourist industry. Cultural co-operation between reindeer herding and cultural events in the Nenets and Sami regions. Three to four visits by tour operators to the Sámi and Nenets regions will be organized during the project. Marketing through media, film and TV productions.To conclude the project, a tourism plan will be prepared for the Nenets Okrug covering the period from 2013 to 2020. The package tours and products will be based on the rich culture and traditions of the indigenous peoples of the north and the Arctic nature of the regions.

Achievements (EN): The project has provided experience to Nenets about tourism development. The focus has been on creating, developing and marketing of culture and package tour services designed from the region’s indigenous population’s own perspective.

Expected Results (EN):

1. The knowledge of the culture and livelihoods of the indigenous peoples of the North increases among the target areas. 2. Contacts between the tour operators and the tourism actors on the target area will be developed. This is how the knowledge between the Sami and Nenets indigenous people get to know each other better. These events strenghten the identity of Sami and Nenes people´s identity. 3. Tourist industry must be organized on profitable basis and there must be some local organizers on Barents area.The plan helps authorities, organizations and enterprises to make plans for the future. 4. The ethnical and ekological way of thinking increase. 5. The products are developed to respect the Sami and Nenets culture´s authetic way of living.No such information exists just now. This makes it easier for a tourist interested in Nenets area and culture to plan his tour. 6. In long term there will be a lot of knowledge, scholarship and information to be found in the Sami Education Institute.1.
