Ageing is a large socio-economic threat in NWE and a top priority issue at EU level. Dementia is a leading psychiatric condition for people over 60. It is a slowly progressing. non curable. condition with approx. 70% having Alzheimer disease. 60 % of all care is given by informal carers and most of them are overburdened (Alzheimer Nederland. 2008). Dementia needs higher recognition as cases are expected to double in 2025. Managing this potential threat to NWE society in a cost-efficient way requires innovative approaches presenting opportunities for new businesses and employment as well as concerted action by business and policy-makers at all regional levels. Innovate Dementia aims at boosting innovation and employment by strengthened cooperation at international level between all concerned parties to develop. implement and integrate innovative. long-lasting solutions to the socio-economic challenges linked with ageing and dementia. Further objectives: • provide state of art of dementia care models and best practices and engage in high-intensive stakeholder dialogue highlighting the advantages of homecare.greater involvement of informal carers and volunteers also to achieve greater solidarity between generations • boost development.testing and evaluation of innovative dementia care models in Living Labs involving intelligent lighting systems.dietary/exercise programs.living environment and models of assistance for patients/carers • establish a solid framework for business collaboration and linkage with policy agendas through the Business Support Plan.Recommendation on transn. dementia care programmes.Policy Endorsement Plan and link outputs to RECAP Portal Main achievements: 1.innovative dementia care models/programs ready for uptake in NWE 2.NWE powerhouse on health innovation for dementia created 3.boosted business development with employment opportunities 4.better response to the needs of persons living with dementia and of informal carers

Achievements (EN):

10 European partners are working together to create innovative solutions for dementia care. In the Innovate Dementia project we focus on exploring, developing, testing and evaluating assistive design solutions for people living with dementia and their carers from different perspectives: intelligent lighting, living environment, nutrition and exercise and models of assistance. One final transnational collaborative report, based on the Innovate Dementia Living Lab experience and results will link to the final recommendations in a business support plan, focusing on “small to medium enterprises” (SME’s) and an endorsement plan for policy action at regional, national and EU-level, linking to health policies at EU-level. The project partners of the Innovate Dementia project agreed to use the following user-friendly definition of a Living Lab: “a Living Lab is a pragmatic research environment which openly engages all relevant partners with an emphasis on improving the real-life care of people living with dementia through the use of economically viable and sustainable innovation”. (definition based on definition of Bergvall-Kåreborn and Ståhlbröst) The Innovate Dementia project includes more than 25 Living Labs projects in the four participating regions. There are more than 500 end-users (persons living with dementia and their family carers) and more than 200 professional carers involved. More than 25 business parties are involved in these Living Labs. And all these actions have resulted in more than 15 innovative solutions that can be brought to the market.
