The project proposes the harmonization of control and inspection procedures related to protected species: measures of preservation of endangered species, fighting against illegal trade of protected species in the two countries. A number of 2 meetings (1 in each country) were organized in order to assess the current situation and to propose harmonized procedures for control and inspection. Common inspections are organized in each country at the beginning of the project (in order to present to the staff from the other country the currently applicable procedures) and 1 at the end of the project (in Romania, in order to implement the harmonized methodology). Training workshops as well as a tri-lingual website (Hu-Ro-En) are implemented. Some IT equipment is purchased, including GIS software, and a series of awareness actions are developed. The results are related to harmonize procedures, trained staff, and better informed local communities. The target groups are the inspection staff from the eligible counties, the general public and local organizations, in the area of the project. The general objective of the project is to improve the conditions for preservation of protected species. The main specific activities of the project are: harmonization of procedures; joint inspection missions; improvement of monitoring and control regarding protected species. Among project results: 2300000 ha of territory with improved conditions for preservation of protected species, 3 joint missions executed, 40 staff participants to joint missions, 1 joint document to be used on both sides of the border (best practice guide), 3 harmonized/improved procedures, 40 people of staff trained in using the improved/harmonized procedures.
