Description (EN):

Clay has had many different uses since it was found by the humans. Some of the oldest clay artifacts (5600 – 5300 B.C.) were found in the area of the Lower Danube. One of the newest and inspiring theories (theory of Harold Haarmann) is creating a new paradigm in historical science that the so cold Danube script wrote in clay is the oldest writings of an ancient civilization existing in the Balkans 8000 thousand years ago. Since then clay was used for occult objects, jewels, pottery, housing, decorations, art, etc. The entire clay historical heritage in the area of Lower Danube is rich and inspires great scientists, writers, researchers and history fans, but is still unknown to the wide tourist audience. The existing potential for development of boutique tourism based on clay and its promotion is not utilized and no integrated tourist offerings and itineraries are available on the tourist market for it. The project proposal aims to improve the sustainable use of this cultural heritage. The total budget of the project is approximately 381 344.09 euro. The project activities are: development of JCB tourist itinerary "The Path of Clay" and common strategy for boutique tourism, complete verbal interpretation for guides, promotion of the new tourist product; establishment of an Open Air Museum in Cherven Bryag; implementation of training in sculptural techniques, 4 clay workshops and 4 festivals; promotion of the new tourist product and services provided. The results contribute to the program indicators with: one integrated tourism product with 3 new tourist services, developed one common strategy, increase of the expected number of visits to supported sites of cultural heritage and attraction with 3000 people, raised tourists overnights in the CBC region with 1350.

Achievements (EN):

The project was finalized. Results: - 1 new tourist route “The path of the clay” developed. - 1 training in sculptural technique – for 50 youths was organized. - 2 art workshops in Cherven Bryag, BG and 2 in Calafat, RO were organized 1 festival in BG and 1 festival in RO were organized. - The Open Air Museum of Clay Art in Cherven Bryag, Pleven and in Calafat, Dolj were organized. - Audio guides of elements of the joint integrated tourist product were elaborated. - The followings documents were elaborated: 1) common strategy for the development of tourism boutique, 2) tourist route "The Path of Clay", 3) Catalog with clay artwork. - 1 Media tour – for 50 persons, including media representatives and bloggers was organized. - The information are available to the public on the website http://www.thepathoftheclay.eu/

Expected Results (EN): R2.1 - Number of tourist overnights in the CBC region

Expected Outputs (EN):

Within the events of the project many overnights will be realized in the border region based on the events planned. With the development of a common tourist itinerary, development of new common tourist product and other services for boutique tourism the project will increase the number of tourists overnights in the long run in the CB region not only during the project. The project will contribute to increasing the number of tourists’ overnights in the target area with minimum 1350 overnights.
