Description (EN):

SMEs in Central Europe currently face shortages of skilled labour force mainly in relation to the requirements posed by technological progress and economic innovation. This is particularly true for Work Integration Social Enterprises (WISEs) as social SMEs working for the integration of disadvantaged groups. Even though they represent significant economic actors in Europe (engaging over 14.5 million paid employees), WISEs are in fact disadvantaged compared to traditional SMEs since they often suffer from technological gaps due to low investment levels and lack of necessary skills. The INNO-WISEs project will tackle these weaknesses by improving the capacity of WISEs to offer qualified jobs to disadvantaged groups, hence contributing to greater social cohesion. Through the implementation of an integrated approach (tackling all development needs of the sector from technology gaps to skills shortages), and through the production of specific outputs for the WISE sector (including a knowledge management framework, a flexible ICT platform, training programmes etc.), the project is expected to significantly change the entrepreneurial mind-set, skills and attitude of the sector by building and promoting a stronger culture of entrepreneurship and greater social innovation capacities. To reach this ambitious objective, INNO-WISEs has a strong and highly qualified transnational dimension, involving, as partners, key research and technological entities, a group of WISE consortia in Central Europe countries and the European Network of WISEs located in Belgium, which will be a key factor in the successful implementation of the project since it will determine the high applicability and transferability of its results. INNO-WISEs will represent a ground-breaking project for the social economy sector since it will bring, adapt and make enterprises able to use technologies and skills which are currently out of their reach and which will represent a turning point for their development.

Achievements (EN):

Despite the INNO-WISEs project have been largely impacted by the COVID crisis, the partners successfully adapt their activities to deliver the project on time. Overall, the project reaches its goal to create a knowledge management framework, a flexible digital communication platform as well as training programmes to help WISEs - work integration social enterprises – to face their skills shortages especially in the area of digital and managerial skills. To improve the technological, technical, ICT and managerial skills and competences of WISEs and to reduce the technological gap currently affecting WISEs, the project launched its online platform (https://wisebusiness.eu/de/), which proposes more than 240 tools, translated into 7 languages and hosting the training materials and the MOOC. This platform has been widely tested and improved during the last 6 project months. During the INNO-WISEs project 5 action plans have been adopted by Public Authorities declaring their intention to adopt the project strategies to promote the innovation and the contribution of social entrepreneurship in their policies and activities. Furthermore, the project platform and MOOC are still online and will be further developed. The end of INNO-WISEs marks the beginning of WISEs transition!

Expected Results (EN): R 1.2 Status of capacities of the public and private sector for skills development of employees and entrepreneurial competences achieved through transnational cooperation driving economic and social innovation in central European regions.

Expected Outputs (EN):

The project will tackle common territorial challenges concerning the structural weaknesses of social enterprises working with disadvantaged groups (WISEs) e.g. inadequate access to technologies, lack of skills to use such technologies, lack of knowledge of public authorities responsible for development policies etc. Thanks to its integrated approach, looking simultaneously at technological and managerial needs (in terms of both tools and skills), and involving all relevant public and private stakeholders the project will produce key changes for the WISE sector by making available to them innovative technologies and by supporting them in gaining the competences (managerial, technological, ICT etc). Hence, important result of the project will be an improved competiveness of WISEs in participating regions which will support their involvement in open markets and in accessing new and international markets. The project will directly contribute to the relevant result indicator since its main outputs (i.e. ICT platform, adapted technologies, strategies, trainings etc.) will contribute to increasing the capacities of social private enterprises (WISEs) in terms of entrepreneurial and managerial competences of employees and managers. The project will also directly contribute to increasing capacities of public authorities in terms of decision-making processes as well as policy and strategy elaboration connected to WISEs development by increasing their knowledge in relation to the sector.
