SCAPE will develop LLD solutions for water management that make coastal landscapes in the 2 Seas area better adapted and more resilient to climate change. SCAPE will work with the key stakeholders to increase the cost effectiveness of water management applications and will deliver pilots to test innovative tools/solutions that among other effects reduce floods. The project will bring together water managers, planners and architects from across the partnership to jointly develop an approach that uses the landscape to tackle water management problems in rural/urban/fringe coastal areas (=LLD).

Achievements (EN):

SCAPE is reaching its goals as we're entering our final year (thanks to extension). The final pilots are work in progress, and we have learned so much during the process. One of the main topics, Landscape Led Design (LLD), has been studied and implemented in the pilots. For those pilots already delivered (Zwin as a rural pilot, Middelburg and Gardens of Stene in Ostend as fringe pilots) the monitoring and evaluation has started and is showing mostly expected but also some unexpected results in the measurements and effects of the works. We can definitely say that SCAPE has already inspired other local infrastructural works to be more 'landscape led designed' when it comes to water management. In the second half of 2020 the main preparations for making both a LLD guide as well as a technical impact report have been made. Both will have a rough first draft by January 2021 and both should be delivered by March 2021. These will be important elements for dissimination of the innovative water management solutions and LLD principles. The making of these documents as well as the remaining pilots have suffered delays due to COVID-19. As we requested an extension of the project untill 31 Dec 2021, we are confident that everything will be delivered including the monitoring and evaluation. Altough we were limited in our options, we have been active via different online media in our communication and we have been reaching out to target groups. Regarding O 3, O 4 and O 5 - the number shows '2' achieved so far. In fact, more has been achieved but the pilots twinned need to be evaluated as twins for the learning effect. Which means that if only 1 pilot is delivered, the final activities to deliver the output are not finalised.

Delivered Outputs (EN):

Based on a landscape led design (LLD) approach, SCAPE developed solutions to water management issues arising from climate change. SCAPE's main outputs are: - 1 LLD strategy for incorporation of landscape led design solutions in water management professionals - 1 digital LLD portal for water manegement that provides landscape led design guidelines for partners/target groups - 6 Pilots to validate landscape led design solutions in different urban coastal (2), rural coastal (2) and fringe coastal (2) landscapes Direct users of the outputs are the professionals working in the field of climate adaptation. The main beneficiaries of the outputs are inhabitants & communities of the respective coastal areas.
