Supporting innovative and value-creating internationalisation efforts and partnerships among SMEs are essential for the future competitiveness, productivity and knowledge economy of the North Sea Region (NSR). In the NSR however, very few SMEs are successful in their export activities in the long run, very few launch other kinds of cross-border co-operations and internationalisation than export, and very few of the non-internationalised SMEs are planning on starting such activities. In order to address these challenges, this project will develop and implement an innovative and lasting lean Soft Landing co-operation between 6 North Sea countries and micro SMEs, business incubators, knowledge institutions and public business development funders in each of these 6 countries.Via joint efforts between an extensive network of participating incubators in the 6 countries, the concept will be developed, offered to and tested on 250 SMEs that reside in the incubators. The soft landing program will have as its purpose to create profit-enhancing knowledge partnerships between SMEs in the 6 countries, as well as between SMEs and knowledge and business development insitituitions. This will be done by exchanging SMEs between the incubators.The program results will be made publicly accessible and disseminated by being translated into a lean soft landing blue print and a NSR fair for future networking and knowledge sharing between incubators and policy makers in the entire EU.

Achievements (EN):

The purpose of Lean Landing was to develop and implement a soft-landing network and concept between incubators, accelerators and partners in the North Sea Region to support the internationalisation efforts of 250 micro SMEs and start-ups. Lean Landing has succeeded in developing and implementing a lasting soft-landing network and concept consisting of 16 incubators, accelerators and partners from six countries in the North Sea Region. By focusing on co-creation and relationship building, the Lean Landing project have built a strong network with a sound physical and digital infrastructure. Building a lasting soft landing network was a central objective of the Lean Landing project, and it is an achievement to have done so. The Lean Landing network of incubators and accelerators will continue as an active soft landing network after the end of the Lean Landing project. The network will continue as a voluntary cooperation between the project partners and the online platform Podio will continue to function as a forum for exchanging leads and matching SMEs with potential business partners and customers across boarders. The network will also be available to join for new incubators or accelerators, within and outside of the North Sea Region in the future. Lean Landing has also successfully recruited 276 SMEs to participate in the Lean Landing activities and presented 169 SMEs with market knowhow, potential partnerships and potential customers in markets abroad. The purpose of these activities was for the SMEs to test wheiter their products or services fitted into the new market and develop and adapt their exsisting practices/procedures so to fit in here. The SMEs’ satisfaction with the Lean Landing project has been positive and most SMEs have obtained valuable market knowledge and business contacts to further develop their businesses and their international activities in years to come.
