Description (EN):

The energy trends in the Mediterranean region are characterized by the growing demand for energy, fossil fuels dependence, high CO2 emissions, etc., with negative consequences on the environment. Buildings are responsible for a significant part of the total energy consumption, causing 36% of CO2 emissions. In this context, increasing the energy performance of the building stock has a key role to play in the transition to a smarter, renewable-intensive and decarbonised energy system and, in the longer term, to a climate-neutral economy. ESMES project will specifically focus on the optimization of energy consumption in public schools through innovative, monitoring-based renewable energy and energy efficiency (REEE) pilot actions. At the same time, the project will improve the capacity of 5 public institutions in order to implement innovative energy rehabilitations.

Expected Results (EN):

1 contest among 34 schools to reduce energy consumption. 5 national energy-efficiency hubs set up. 5 strategies to support efficient and cost-effective energy mix in schools buildings. 10 energy rehabilitations implemented in public schools in Lebanon, Tunisia, Jordan, Italy and Spain and certified through energy performance certificates.

Expected Outputs (EN):

3.1 - Approved procedures for smart and sustainable energy management in public school buildings, 3.2 - Approved strategies to support efficient and cost-effective energy mix in public schools’ buildings, 3.3 - Case studies on REEE project portfolio solutions for enhanced energy rehabilitation of schools’ buil, 3.4 - Tools for implementing REEE project portfolio solutions and SEM measures in schools’ buildings, 4.1 - REEE rehabilitation plans for 5 selected public schools buildings with non-linear energy loads, 4.2 - REEE rehabilitation plans for 5 selected public schools funded by project sub-grants, 5.1 - Pilot REEE cost-effective project portfolio solutions, 5.2 - Energy performance certificates (EPC) released to rehabilitated schools.
