Description (EN):

EMPHASIS is set on co-creating a Mediterranean Open Innovation (OI) ecosystem, in which knowledge flows across borders and is translated into marketable innovations. The project will co-design, deploy and validate a Mediterranean OI service platform, aiming at better linking the fragmented innovation systems of the region by facilitating meaningful cross-border knowledge flows, empower SMEs with the skill-sets required to tap into external knowledge base and turn it into value and identify fields that can turn sustainability challenges (e.g., agri-food, energy, materials) into business opportunities. EMPHASIS will lead to the uptake of the results from a series of projects to identify SMEs, assess their ‘readiness’ to engage with OI and provide them advisory services - in the form of vouchers – to enhance their innovation capacity to build partnerships, covering the different stages of their innovation journeys. A joint transnational approach will be a solid action to address the sustainability agendas through effective market uptake of research outputs.

Outcomes and Achievements The EMPHASIS project's impact is best showcased through its tangible outcomes and impressive achievements: Establishment of an Open Innovation platform equipped with online tools to facilitate seamless exchange of innovative ideas and solutions among SMEs. SMEs participating in the project proposed a total of 60 innovation opportunities, a testament to their creative and entrepreneurial spirit. Advisory services were extended to 24 SMEs, offering expert guidance to navigate the intricate landscape of innovation and collaboration. The project organized six regional capacity-building seminars, providing SMEs with valuable insights and skills to foster a culture of innovation.

Expected Results (EN): An Open Innovation platform enabled, providing online tools to post supply and demand of innovation. 60 innovation opportunities proposed by SMEs boosted through an Open Call. 24 SMEs supported with advisory services. 6 regional capacity building seminars organized.

3.1 - Euromed Dynamics, Needs & Capacities Analysis for SMEs innovation in the sustainability field. 3.2 - Identification of Existing Clusters and Networks & engagement into EMPHASIS OI community. 3.3 - Customisation of EMPHASIS OI Platform. 3.4 - Adaptation of Existing OI Tools to support SMEs' scouting. 3.5 - Adapting Existing Services and Developing New Ones to support SMEs in cross-border collaboration. 4.1 - EMPHASIS Open Call for Identification of Open Innovation Opportunities (Offers and Needs) from SMEs. 4.2 - Collection of Open Innovation Opportunities (offers and Needs). 4.3 - Curation of the Open Innovation Opportunities collected and selection of the final beneficiaries. 5.1 - Offering Advisory Services to SMEs to raise their Innovation Capacities. 5.2 - Training SMEs to raise their Innovation Capacities. 5.3 - Active brokerage and partnering. 6.1 - Euro-Mediterranean Open Innovation Network Handbook. 6.2 - Enhancing Institutional Engagement in EMPHASIS approach from Strategic Actors and Policy Makers. 6.3 - Enhancing Operational Engagement and uptake of EMPHASIS approach from stakeholders.
