Description (EN):

Territories surrounding the Mediterranean Sea face similar specific issues with the adaptation to mitigation of climate change, specifically regarding energy efficiency and renewable energy measures in public buildings. It is thus proposed that they work together on a strategy to capitalize on reference projects’ results. To do so, SEACAP 4 SDG will consider the Sustainable Energy Access and Climate Action Plans (SE(A)CAP) background, under a common vision, strategy and evaluation tool, to achieve Med SE(A)CAP integration through uniform adapted assessment and financing methods, for sustainable development goals in a smart society. SEACAP 4 SDG capitalizes on the outputs and outcomes of 10 projects, identifying characteristics to be generalized, and by adapting gained knowledge to maximize efficiency and effectiveness of energy refurbishment strategies adapted to local Mediterranean specificities, notably energy poverty. These outputs and outcomes will be implemented in 9 cities around the Mediterranean, selected using an approach developed under of the European City Facility initiative. Considering the Covid-19 pandemic and the global economic downturn, the project will focus primarily on education and health buildings.

Achievements (EN):

Local Support: 17 MoUs Signed Our project has gained strong local support across multiple countries. We've signed a total of 17 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), a testament to the interest our project has generated on the ground. This demonstrates the commitment of local stakeholders to sustainable development. Saving Energy and Reducing Emissions Our work in eight municipalities has led to the development of Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SE(A)CAPs), namely: the Municipality of Naples (Italy), the Municipality of Aigialeia (Greece), the Municipality of Lloret de Mar (Catalunya, Spain), the Municipality of Sax (Valencia, Spain), the Municipality of Jdeideh El Chouf (Lebanon), the Municipality of Bizerte (Tunisia), the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority “ASEZA” (Jordan), the Governorate of Alexandria (Egypt). These plans promise significant benefits, such as: Energy Savings: We anticipate saving around 41,193 MWh of energy, contributing to cost savings and efficiency. Less Carbon Emissions: By implementing our plans, we'll reduce carbon emissions by approximately 235,665 tonnes, a significant step toward fighting climate change. Building Sustainability In addition to municipal plans, we've also focused on enhancing energy efficiency and renewable energy use in seven specific buildings, based on the energy audit performed for: the Technical School of the Alexandria Water Company, the Jordan Boys' High School, Jordan Girls' High School and Jordan Mixed Elementary School, in Lebanon for the Mokhtara High School and the Moukhtara Development Service Center, and the City Hall of Bizerte in Tunisia. Here's what we've achieved: Energy Efficiency: Our action plans will save an estimated 161,940 kWh of energy, promoting cost savings and environmentally responsible energy use. Reduced Emissions: These plans will lead to a reduction of 57,735 kg of CO2 emissions, contributing to a more eco-friendly future. The release of this final newsletter is a celebration of our collective success. We're proud of our achievements and excited about the lasting impact they'll have on communities and the environment.

Expected Results (EN):

50 local/regional/national authorities engaged in project activities through in seminars, lobbying, and networking actions. 1 Euro-Mediterranean Efficient Buildings Community created. 9 cities supported financially and technically to implement cost-effective energy rehabilitations across building types. 10.000 kWh/building/year and up to 5% of the total energy consumption of the selected cities through behavioral change (an estimated saving of 50.000 kWh/city/year). 4 directs jobs created in the short term and 180 jobs creations in the medium term. Living Labs and project demonstrators to support the user-oriented cost-effective energy rehabilitations. 9 energy-mix efficiency for further replication and implementation in public buildings throughout the Mediterranean region, including financial and technical solutions.

Expected Outputs (EN):

3.1 - Euro-Mediterranean Efficient Buildings Community. 3.2 - Stakeholders’ clusterization and SEACAP 4 SDG Toolkit for capitalization. 3.3 - Euro-Mediterranean City Facility for SE(A)CAP support through SRP key outcomes. 4.1 - SEACAP 4 SDG Living Lab Methodology. 4.2 - Set of stakeholders trained for SE(A)CAP implementation at local and regional level. 4.3 - Replication and capitalization of SEACAP 4 SDG Living Lab best practices. 5.1 - Capacity building in the 9 selected cities (Level 1 demonstrators). 5.2 - Concrete application on public buildings in 4 of the 9 selected cities (Level 2 demonstrators). 6.1 - Adoption of 9 energy-mix efficiency plans for public institutions. 6.2 - Capitalization of results for maintreaming and a long-term vision for SE(A)CAP in the Med region.
