Ces dernières années ont vu un engouement important pour le développement de textiles intelligents et pour l'intégration de nouvelles fonctionnalités énergétiques. Ces textiles sont amenés à jouer un rôle important dans des domaines comme le stockage et/ou la transformation de l'énergie. L'intérêt du textile réside dans le fait qu'il est flexible, léger et peut être décliné en un grand nombre d'applications comme la signalétique (drapeaux, bannières) ou pour des applications architecturales (toiles décoratives, rideaux). De réelles opportunités apparaissent ainsi pour le marché des textiles photoniques dans le bâtiment (architecture, design intérieur) et dans le secteur de la mobilité. L'objectif du projet LUMINOPTEX est d'intégrer directement au textile des diodes électroluminescentes organiques (OLED's) pour combiner les propriétés uniques du textile (flexibilité, légèreté, confort, bas coût) avec les avantages des OLED's (rendements lumineux, basse consommation). Ces OLED's seront alimentées de manière autonome, en récoltant l'énergie disponible au sein des bâtiments sous forme de radiofréquences (WIFI) et en la stockant dans des batteries ou des super-condensateurs. Le projet se fonde sur l'association des compétences de 6 partenaires régionaux afin de proposer des méthodes novatrices pour concevoir un textile alliant les trois fonctionnalités suivantes : capturer l'énergie, la stocker et la mettre à profit pour émettre une lumière ambiante de façon autonome.

In recent years, there has been considerable interest in the development of smart textiles and the integration of new energy features. These textiles are likely to play an important role in areas such as energy storage and / or transformation. The interest of the textile lies in the fact that it is flexible, lightweight and can be declined in a large number of applications such as signage (flags, banners) or for architectural applications (decorative wallpapers, curtains). Real opportunities are emerging for the photonics textiles market in buildings (architecture, interior design) and in the mobility sector. The objective of the LUMINOPTEX project is to integrate organic light-emitting diodes (OLED's) directly into the textile to combine the unique properties of the textile (flexibility, lightness, comfort, low cost) with the advantages of OLED's (light output, low consumption). These OLEDs will be powered autonomously, by harvesting the energy available in buildings as radio frequencies (WIFI) and storing it in batteries or supercapacitors. The project is based on the combination of the skills of 6 regional partners in order to propose innovative methods to design a textile combining the following three functionalities: capture energy, store it and use it to emit an ambient light autonomously .

De afgelopen jaren is er een toenemende interesse in de ontwikkeling van intelligent textiel (smart textiles) en voor de integratie van nieuwe functies ivm energie. Deze nieuwe textielmaterialen kunnen een belangrijke rol spelen op het gebied van de opslag en/of verwerking van de energie of op het gebied van de informatie en communicatie. Textiel als substraat heeft enkele belangrijke voordelen: flexibiliteit, licht gewicht en breed toepassingsgebied zoals signalisatie (vlaggen, banners), en architecturale toepassingen in gebouwen (decoratieve stoffen, gordijnen, enz.) Er bestaan reële mogelijkheden in de sector van fotonisch textiel in de bouw en constructie ("building textile", "home textile", architectuur en interieur) en in de sector mobiliteit. Deze twee ebieden zijn belangrijke pijlers binnen H2020 projecten van de Europese Commissie mbt toekomstige en innovatieve textieltoepassingen. Bovendien past de integratie van dergelijke nieuwe textielmaterialen in gebouwen binnen het kader van de Europese richtlijnen met betrekking tot de reductie van 20% van het energieverbruik van gebouwen in 2020 (Richtlijn 2012/27 / EU van het Europees Parlement en de Raad van 25 oktober 2012) en de bouw van nieuwe "nul-energie" woningen vanaf 2021. Het LUMINOPTEX project richt zich op het ontwerp en de implementatie van nieuw intelligent textiel voor "autonome diffuse verlichting" met toepassingen in interieur design, decoratieve stoffen of signalisatie. Om dit doel te bereiken, zijn we van plan om organische elektroluminiscente diodes (OLED) direct te integreren op textiel. Op die manier worden de unieke textieleigenschappen (flexibiliteit, licht gewicht, comfort, lage kostprijs) gecombineerd met de voordelen van OLEDs (lichtrendement, laag verbruik, lichtgewicht, flexibiliteit, vlakke en diffuse verlichting over grote oppervlakken en uitzicht). Deze OLED elementen kunnen onafhankelijk worden aangedreven, en halen de nodige energie uit de in de gebouwen beschikbare draadloze netwerken (WIFI) en slaan deze energie op in elektrochemische batterijen of super condensatoren. Het project LUMINOPTEX baseert zich op de onafscheidelijke competenties van de 6 regionale partners en stelt innovatieve technieken voor om een textiel te creëren dat volgende drie functies combineert: (1) opname van de energie, (2) bewaring van deze energie, en (3) het beschikken over autonome lichtelementen die voor sfeerverlichting zorgen.

Le projet LUMINOPTEX (site web: http://www.luminoptex.eu/) fait partie du portefeuille de projets GoToS3 et porte sur la conception et la mise en oeuvre de nouveaux textiles intelligents pour des applications « éclairage ambiant autonome». pour du design intérieur, tissus décoratifs ou encore signalétique). Pour atteindre cet objectif, nous envisageons d'intégrer directement au textile des diodes électroluminescentes organiques (OLED's) pour combiner les propriétés uniques du textile (flexibilité, légèreté, confort, bas coût) avec les avantages des OLED's (rendements lumineux, basse consommation, légèreté, flexibilité, illumination planaire et diffuse sur grande surface et esthétique). Ces OLED's seront alimentées de manière autonome, en récoltant l'énergie disponible au sein des bâtiments sous forme de radiofréquences (WIFI) et en stockant cette énergie sous forme électrochimique au sein de batteries ou de supercondensateurs. Le projet LUMINOPTEX se fonde sur l'association des compétences indissociables de 6 partenaires régionaux (Materia Nova, Centexbel, ENSAIT, IEMN-Université de Lille, ICTEAM-UCL et CIRMAP-UMONS)afin de proposer des méthodes novatrices pour concevoir un textile alliant les trois fonctionnalités :(1)capturer l'énergie RF, (2) la stocker et (3) la mettre à profit pour émettre une lumière ambiante de façon autonome. Le projet s'organise autour de 5 modules techniques (MT) dont les objectifs peuvent se résumer ainsi: 1- Mise au point des structures textiles (leader ENSAIT) 2- Fonctionnalisation de surface des supports textiles (Leader Centexbel) 3- Intégration d'antennes RF-WIFI (Leader: IEMN- Université de Lille ) 4- Intégration de batteries et supercapaciteurs (Leader: ICTEAM-UCL) 5- Intégration d'OLED autonomes et prototypage (Leader: MATERIA NOVA) Le partenaire CIRMAP-UMONS intervient dans les activités 3, 4 et 5 pour la sélection des meilleurs matériaux. Durant la période de démarrage (le premier semestre, du 1er janvier au 30 juin 2017), la collaboration transfrontalière entre les six opérateurs du projet LUMINOPTEX s'est mise en place. Nous avons décidé que le projet avance de manière concertée entre les partenaires selon deux approches parallèles et complémentaires. La première consiste à tirer profit immédiatement des technologies déjà matures de certains partenaires pour avancer rapidement vers le prototypage. Ainsi Centexbel, Materia Nova et l'UCL ont commencé à collaborer pour la fabrication et l'intégration de dispositifs OLED's et de batteries flexibles au textile via l'utilisation de "release paper", ce qui permet dans un premier temps de s'affranchir de la nature des supports textiles, qui seront définis une fois le comité de valorisation consolidé. Les autres partenaires, plutôt actifs dans la conception de nouvelles fibres et dans la mise au point de structures pour capturer l'énergie, avancent de manière parallèle afin de concevoir un textile récupérateur d'énergie, ce qui constitue une approche plus fondamentale. Des travaux préliminaires menés entre L'ENSAIT, l'IEMN et l'UMONS servent ainsi de base à la conception de fibres textiles, tissées ou brodées intégrant des diodes rectificatrices. Pour le prototypage sur textile, des actions concrètes ont été entreprises au cours des semestres suivants. Des couches d'enduction barrière ont été mises au point par Centexbel. La mise en en œuvre des Oled's sur ces couches d'enduction, pour une protection efficace des dispositifs, a été réalisée par Materia Nova. En ce qui concerne les antennes collectrices, après les caractérisations menées par l'IEMN sur les antennes patchs réalisées aux semestres précédents, l'ENSAIT a brodé des modèles d'antennes dont les caractéristiques dimensionnelles ont été modifiées par l'IEMN pour améliorer les résultats en termes de rayonnement. Pour les batteries souples, de nouveaux matériaux actifs à base de nanotubes de carbone et de nanofils de silicium ont été synthétisés et des essais pour leur intégration dans les dispositifs de stockage Li ion ont été effectués par UCL-ICTEAM. En tout, 10 comités d'accompagnement et 13 comités scientifiques ont eu lieu. Sur le plan de la valorisation, des contacts très prometteurs ont été pris avec la société FIBERTEX (une entreprise textile de Wevelgem intéressée par des applications de couvertures textiles murales éclairantes). Ces contacts nous permettent d'orienter le projet pour la conception de premiers prototypes. L'accompagnement individuel de Fibertex a progressé en 2018 et 2019. Fibertex a fourni à Materia Nova des premiers supports textiles dont le tissage est particulièrement bien adapté pour l'intégration esthétique d'éléments éclairants OLeds'. En particulier, pour "camoufler" les connectiques. Dès S1 (du 01-01-2017 au 30-06-2017), le projet a opté pour une stratégie de fabrication d'OLED sur papier transfert, laminé ensuite sur les supports textile. Cette stratégie permet une plus grande polyvalence des protocoles de fabrications vis-à-vis de la diversité des supports textiles disponibles. Cette stratégie a été appliquée aux support textiles de Fibertex. Sur le plan de la communication projet et programme, l'évènement de lancement officiel du projet a eu lieu le 26 Septembre 2017 à VKC-Centexbel à Courtrai. Un site internet du projet a été créé (http://www.luminoptex.eu/), 39 communications scientifiques (publications et posters), 44 communications de vulgarisation et 7 articles de presse ont été réalisées, jusqu'à la fin du projet (du 01-01-2021 au 31-03-2022). Par ailleurs, le 1er et le 2ème semestre 2020 ont évidemment été perturbés par la crise sanitaire, la restriction des accès aux équipements et par conséquent l’arrêt de certaines activités expérimentales. La priorité demeure, pour autant, une coordination des actions avec les partenaires du projet pour une progression collective vers les objectifs du projet. En conséquence, les partenaires du projet LUMINOPTEX se sont accordés pour demander solidairement une prolongation du projet pour maintenir l'activité transfrontalière durant toute l'année 2021. L'année 2021 a donc vu une reprise des activités concrètes pour la conception et la fabrication de prototypes. Pour des raisons de spécifications électriques différentes, l’intégration des différentes briques technologiques a différencié deux prototypes sur un textile de FIBERTEX. Le premier implique les antennes textiles micro-ondes et le redressement DC du signal électrique généré par la capture électromagnétique, tels que développés par l’IEMN et l’ENSAIT. Le deuxième intègre les batteries de l’UCL, la connectique filaire de l’ENSAIT, les OLED de Materia Nova fabriquées à partir des supports enduits de Centexbel. Les géométries et spécifications techniques générales ont été définies et Fibertex a fourni les supports. Pendant le premier semestre 2021, les partenaires du projet se sont organisés pour la fabrication de ces prototypes. Durant le second semestre 2021, les partenaires se sont occupés d'assembler les différentes briques Un évènement de clôture s'est tenu le 13 décembre 2021 sous la forme d'un Webinar à destination des entreprises actives dans le textile architectural.

The LUMINOPTEX project is based on the combination of the inseparable competences of 6 regional partners (Materia Nova, Centexbel, ENSAIT, IEMN-University of Lille, ICTEAM-UCL and CIRMAP-UMONS) to propose innovative methods for designing a textile combining the three functionalities:(1)capture RF energy, (2) store it and (3) use it to emit ambient light autonomously. The project is organised around 5 technical modules (MT) whose objectives can be summarised as follows: 1- Development of textile structures (ENSAIT leader) 2- Surface functionalisation of textile supports (Leader Centexbel) 3- Integration of RF-WIFI antennas (Leader: IEMN- University of Lille) 4- Integration of batteries and supercapacitors (Leader: ICTEAM-UCL) 5- Integration of autonomous OLED and prototyping (Leader: Materia NOVA) The CIRMAP-UMONS partner is involved in activities 3, 4 and 5 for the selection of the best materials. During the start-up period (first half, from 1 January to 30 June 2017), cross-border collaboration between the six operators of the LUMINOPTEX project took place. We have decided that the project progresses in a concerted manner between the partners in two parallel and complementary approaches. The first is to take immediate advantage of the already mature technologies of some partners to move quickly towards prototyping. Centexbel, Materia Nova and UCL have started to collaborate in the manufacture and integration of OLED’s devices and flexible batteries to textiles through the use of release paper, which in the first instance allows us to overcome the nature of textile supports, which will be defined once the recovery committee is consolidated. The other partners, rather active in the design of new fibres and in the development of structures to capture energy, are advancing in parallel in order to design an energy-recovering textile, which is a more fundamental approach. Preliminary work carried out between ENSAIT, IEMN and UMONS thus serves as the basis for the design of textile fibres, woven or embroidered with rectifying diodes. For textile prototyping, concrete actions were taken in the following semesters. Barrier coating layers have been developed by Centexbel. The implementation of the Oled’s on these coating layers, for effective protection of the devices, was carried out by Materia Nova. With regard to collector antennas, following the characterisations carried out by the IEMN on patch antennas carried out in previous semesters, ENSAIT embroidered antenna models whose dimensional characteristics were modified by the IEMN to improve radiation results. For flexible batteries, new active materials based on carbon nanotubes and silicon nanowires have been synthesised and tests for their integration into Li ion storage devices have been performed by UCL-ICTEAM. A total of 10 accompanying committees and 13 scientific committees took place. In terms of valorisation, very promising contacts were made with Fibertex (a Wevelgem textile company interested in applications of illuminating wall coverings). These contacts allow us to guide the project for the design of first prototypes. Fibertex’s individual support increased in 2018 and 2019. Fibertex provided Materia Nova with the first textile supports whose weaving is particularly well suited for the aesthetic integration of OLEDs’ illuminating elements. In particular, to “camouflage” the connections. From S1 (from 01-01-2017 to 30-06-2017), the project opted for a strategy to manufacture OLED on transfer paper, then laminated on textile supports. This strategy allows for a greater versatility of manufacturing protocols with regard to the diversity of textile supports available. This strategy has been applied to Fibertex textile supports. In terms of project and programme communication, the official launch event of the project took place on 26 September 2017 in VKC-Centexbel in Kortrijk. Moreover, the 1st and 2nd half of 2020 were obviously disrupted by the health crisis, the restriction of access to equipment and consequently the cessation of some experimental activities. The priority remains, however, the coordination of actions with the project partners for collective progress towards the objectives of the project. As a result, the partners of the LUMINOPTEX project agreed to jointly and severally request an extension of the project to maintain cross-border activity throughout 2021. 2021 therefore saw a resumption of concrete activities for the design and manufacture of prototypes. For reasons of different electrical specifications, the integration of the different technological bricks differentiated two prototypes on a Fibertex textile. The first involves microwave textile antennas and DC straightening of the electrical signal generated by electromagnetic capture, as developed by IEMN and ENSAIT. The second incorporates UCL batteries, ENSAIT’s wired connector, Materia Nova OLEDs made from Centexbel coated supports. General geometries and technical specifications were defined and Fibertex provided the supports.
