The Biogas 2020 project aims to make Scandinavia the best in the world on biogas — it contributes to a sustainable society and also creates new jobs. To achieve this, the main goal of the project is to develop a Scandinavian platform where actors can grow together. Scandinavia has a unique combination of rural and urban areas, developed industries, food production and a strong innovation climate — conditions for increasing the production of locally produced renewable energy. This is what the Biogas 2020 project wants to use, and open pathways for cross-border conversations so that the biogas industry in the region grows. We want to be a strong and common player throughout the biogas value chain. Through this, we hope to help Scandinavia create locally produced renewable energy that can replace fossil energy in vehicles, at the same time as it creates new jobs and contributes to a sustainable and sustainable society," says Peter Eriksson, project coordinator for Biogas 2020. Equalise differences: The support for biogas is different in the Scandinavian countries, which creates a situation that is not good for the development of biogas. Today, biogas is being moved between countries to maximise support, which only benefits individual operators, says Peter Eriksson. Instead, they want to see collaborations in the biogas industry. “We want to create harmony with a support system that helps us grow together, and promotes the development of the biogas industry as a whole,” says Peter Eriksson. Networking and Collaboration: The starting point is three countries and three regions that have completely different conditions and have come different stages in the biogas process, but which can now take bigger steps together. The project’s 35 partners will focus on creating a platform where biogas can be discussed, while developing production, processes and infrastructure within the biogas industry. In this way, Biogas 2020 contributes to networking and exchange of experience, to develop new business models and to create a joint monitoring of the environment. We want to create a biogas platform that will be a forum where countries can channel their biogas issues towards both the EU and their own governments. The network should be able to provide facts and evidence to show what biogas means for the benefit of society and the climate. But it will also make the regions stronger by allowing companies, academia and institutes to reach a larger target group and have greater impact than at home," he says. Social and climate benefits; Peter Eriksson has high hopes that Biogas 2020 will strengthen the entire industry. And he thinks it’s extremely important that it happens soon. We all need to be helped to find alternative and renewable energy sources for the sake of climate. But biogas also creates new jobs and secures food production by converting waste into a nutrient-rich plant nutrient. It’s a good way to go, he says.

Projektet Biogas 2020 arbetar för att Skandinavien ska bli bäst i världen på biogas – det bidrar till ett hållbart samhäller och skapar även nya jobb. För att nå dit är projektets huvudmål att utveckla en skandinavisk plattform där aktörer kan växa tillsammans. Skandinavien har en unik kombination av landsbygd och stad, utvecklade industrier, livsmedelsproduktion och ett starkt innovationsklimat – förutsättningar för att öka produktionen av lokalproducerad förnybar energi. Detta vill projektet Biogas 2020 nyttja, och öppna vägar för samtal över gränserna så att biogasbranschen i regionen växer. – Vi vill bli en stark och gemensam aktör i hela värdekedjan inom biogas. Genom det hoppas vi hjälpa Skandinavien att skapa lokalproducerad förnyelsebar energi som kan ersätta fossil energi i fordon, samtidigt som det skapare nya jobb och bidrar till ett uthålligt och hållbart samhälle, säger Peter Eriksson, projektkoordinator för Biogas 2020. Jämna ut skillnader: Stödet för biogas ser olika ut i de skandinaviska länderna, vilket skapar en situation som inte är bra för utvecklingen av biogas. I dag flyttas därför biogas mellan länderna för att maximera stödet, vilket bara gynnar enskilda aktörer, anser Peter Eriksson. I stället vill de se samarbeten inom biogasindustrin. – Vi vill skapa harmoni med ett stödsystem som bidrar till att vi växer tillsammans, och gynna utvecklingen av biogasbranschen i sin helhet, säger Peter Eriksson. Nätverk och samverkan: Utgångspunkten är tre länder och tre regioner som har helt olika förutsättningar och har kommit olika långt i biogasprocessen, men som nu kan ta större steg tillsammans. Projektets 35 partners kommer att fokusera på att skapa en plattform där biogas kan diskuteras, och samtidigt utveckla produktion, processer och infrastruktur inom biogasbranschen. På så sätt bidrar Biogas 2020 till nätverkande och erfarenhetsutbyte, att nya affärsmodeller tas fram och att skapa en gemensam omvärldsbevakning. – Vi vill skapa en biogasplattform som ska vara ett forum där länderna kan kanalisera sina biogasfrågor mot såväl EU som mot sina egna regeringar. Nätverket ska kunna bistå med fakta och underlag för att visa vad biogas innebär för samhällsnyttan och klimatet. Men det ska också göra regionerna starkare genom att företag, akademi och institut kan nå en större målgrupp och få större genomslagskraft än på hemmaplan, säger han. Samhälls- och klimatnytta; Peter Eriksson har stora förhoppningar på att Biogas 2020 kommer att stärka hela branschen. Och han tycker det är oerhört viktigt att det sker snart. – Vi måste alla hjälpas åt för att hitta alternativa och förnybara energikällor för klimatets skull. Men biogas skapar också nya jobb och säkrar livsmedelsproduktion genom att man omvandlar avfall till ett näringsrikt växtnäringsämne. Det är en bra väg att gå, säger han.

Achievements (EN):

"Biogas2020 is a cross-border cooperation for biogas development in the Öresund-Kattegat-Skagarrak area. During the project period 2015-June 2018, we have gathered the today spread knowledge of biogas in our three countries Norway, Sweden and Denmark. We have created synergies and collaborations that develop knowledge about biogas, and we have laid the foundations for sustainable production and increased demand. Through a broad partnership, we work with the entire value chain — from substrate to use. Our collaboration continues. The Biogas2020 project will end on 30 June 2018. Subsequently, a number of partners from the project have committed to continue working together within a Scandinavian biogas platform. After Biogas2020, we continue to take advantage of the knowledge that exists within the network. Cooperation combines the strengths of the different countries to achieve a boost for biogas."

Achievements (SV):

Biogas2020 är ett gränsöverskridande samarbete för biogasutveckling i området Öresund-Kattegat-Skagarrak. Under projektperioden 2015-juni 2018 har vi samlat den idag spridda kunskapen om biogas i våra tre länder Norge, Sverige och Danmark. Vi har skapat synergier och samarbeten som utvecklar kunskaperna om biogas, och vi har lagt grunden till en hållbar produktion och ökad efterfrågan. Via ett brett partnerskap arbetar vi med hela värdekedjan - från substrat till användning. Vår samverkan fortsätter. Projektet Biogas2020 avslutas 30 juni 2018. Därefter har ett antal parter från projektet åtagit sig att fortsätta samverka inom en skandinavisk biogasplattform. Efter Biogas2020 fortsätter vi ta tillvara de kunskaper som finns inom nätverket. Genom samarbete kombineras de olika ländernas styrkor för att uppnå ett lyft för biogasen.
